A Personal Support Worker (PSW) for 2.5 years, Olu loves to care for the elderly and those who are unable to care for themselves! To her, care is not just about helping the client with their daily needs, it is about caring with love and compassion. One unique activity she likes to do with her clients is doing their hair! A memorable client of hers was a lady from Montréal who would say “ma mère” to the photos of her mother in her room. The phrase would end up being calming for the lady and is something Olu will never forget. Olu’s advice for current and future PSWs is that you need to have patience and love when caring for your clients and take the time to make observations to better take care of your client. Some additional advice is to learn more about dementia so that you can understand what they are going through.
